Argonaut lunar lander propulsion: end-of-life adaptation

A preliminary group design study assessing end-of-life recycling adaptations for the propulsion subsystem of the Argonaut RELIANCE/SPE-T case study.

Group design project Propulsion work package April 2025

Contribution and scope

Propulsion adaptation within a wider lunar recycling study.

I worked with a teammate in the propulsion work package, contributing to the end-of-life adaptation of the subsystem within the group’s lunar recycling project. The report builds on a baseline propulsion design documented in related team work.

The study considered material selection, disassembly and recycling trade-offs, tank architecture, and the resulting subsystem mass. Recommendations included titanium propellant tanks, aluminium helium pressurant vessels and piping, selected titanium/Inconel engine components, and a monopropellant AOCS/RCS arrangement to reduce tank count.
